The information below relates to The Centre for Male Psychology’s Hypnotherapy and Wellbeing Coaching service provided by The Centre for Male Psychology.

1. Definitions

  • “CMP” refers to Centre for Male Psychology and any administrative representatives acting on its behalf.

  • “Practitioner” refers specifically to Dr John Barry, the qualified hypnotherapist and chartered psychologist providing services.

  • “Client” refers to any person who engages in CMP services.

2. Scope of Service

CMP offers hypnotherapy and wellbeing coaching to adults (18+) for purposes of:

  • stress reduction

  • behavioural change

  • confidence building

  • relaxation skill development

  • performance enhancement

  • personal growth and self-improvement

The Practitioner is fully insured for the provision of hypnotherapy and wellbeing services.
Sessions are delivered in accordance with relevant professional standards and insurance requirements.

CMP does not provide:

  • psychotherapy

  • psychiatric diagnosis or treatment

  • counselling

  • medical diagnosis, prescription, or clinical management

  • emergency or crisis intervention services

Hypnotherapy sessions may include guided relaxation, focused attention, suggestion-based techniques, or metaphor-based work.
These are intended to support wellbeing and personal development, not to treat or cure medical or psychiatric conditions.

3. Suitability and Contraindications

Hypnotherapy is generally safe but may not be appropriate for all individuals.
The Client must disclose any relevant medical or psychological history, including:

  • psychiatric diagnoses

  • medications which affect the central nervous system

  • neurological disorders or epileptic seizures

  • dissociative disorders

  • past or present self-harm or suicide attempts

Hypnotherapy may be unsuitable if the Client has:

  • bipolar disorder

  • psychosis or psychotic history

  • untreated PTSD

  • substance withdrawal

  • active suicidal ideation

  • epilepsy or seizure disorders

The Practitioner may decline or discontinue services if hypnotherapy is considered unsafe or inappropriate. Clients who are not suited to treatment due to having a contraindicated condition, being in a country with poor internet or incompatible health regulations, or for any other reason whether disclosed or not by the Practitioner, will not be eligible for a free initial consultation.

4. Crisis Support and Emergencies

CMP and the Practitioner do not provide emergency or crisis services.
If you are in immediate danger or experiencing suicidal thoughts, contact:

  • 999 — Emergency Services

  • 111 — NHS Urgent Medical Advice

  • 116 123 — Samaritans

  • your GP or local mental health crisis team

Sessions may be postponed or discontinued if the Client is in acute distress.

5. Professional Boundaries

CMP services are designed to support mindset, personal development, wellbeing enhancement, and performance.
The Practitioner will not provide:

  • clinical diagnosis

  • medication advice

  • counselling or psychotherapy

  • legal or financial advice

When appropriate, the Practitioner may recommend external professionals or services.

6. Informed Consent

Participation in hypnotherapy and coaching is voluntary.
The Client may discontinue at any time.

By engaging in services, the Client understands and agrees that:

  • hypnotherapy outcomes vary from person to person

  • no specific results can be guaranteed

  • lasting change requires Client engagement and personal effort

  • they remain responsible for any decisions or actions they take outside sessions

Booking a session constitutes informed consent to receive hypnotherapy and coaching under these terms.

7. International Clients

Due to differing national regulations, the service for international clients is limited to wellbeing, stress management, and mindset work.
It does not address medical conditions, psychiatric disorders, or clinical treatment.

The Practitioner reserves the right to decline international bookings where regulation or safety concerns arise.

8. Confidentiality

Session content is confidential and will not be shared except where legally required or ethically mandated, including situations involving:

  • risk of harm to the Client or others

  • safeguarding of children or vulnerable adults

  • terrorism or serious criminal activity

  • legal disclosure orders

Record-keeping complies with UK data protection law (UK GDPR).

9. Data & Privacy

Client data is collected solely for:

  • service delivery

  • scheduling

  • legal compliance

  • safeguarding requirements

Data is stored securely and retained for legally required periods only.
Clients may request access or deletion of their data where lawful.

10. Fees, Cancellations & Refunds

  • Payment is due before the session unless otherwise agreed.

  • Sessions cancelled with fewer than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at full rate. Cancellation at 24-48 hour notice will receive a 50% refund.

  • Refunds are not available once a session has begun or been delivered.

  • CMP may reschedule or cancel sessions for operational or clinical reasons.

Failure to attend without notice may result in termination of future services.

11. Behaviour & Conduct

CMP and the Practitioner reserve the right to refuse service where:

  • abusive or aggressive behaviour occurs

  • the Client attends under the influence of alcohol or drugs

  • sessions are recorded without permission

  • services are intentionally misused

12. Recording & Intellectual Property

Sessions must not be recorded by the Client in audio, video, screen-capture, or transcript form without the Practitioner’s written consent.
The Practitioner will not record sessions without written Client consent.

Materials provided remain the intellectual property of CMP and may not be reproduced, shared, or distributed.

13. Health & Medical Disclaimer

Hypnotherapy and coaching are complementary wellbeing services.
They do not replace medical or psychiatric treatment.

Clients agree that they will:

  • consult a GP or specialist for medical or psychiatric concerns

  • not delay, avoid, or discontinue prescribed treatment due to hypnotherapy

  • inform the Practitioner of changes in health or medication

14. Limitation of Liability

The Practitioner will act with reasonable skill and care appropriate to professional practice.

CMP and the Practitioner are not liable for:

  • outcomes or goals not achieved

  • emotional, behavioural, or financial consequences of Client choices

  • indirect, consequential, or incidental losses

To the fullest extent permitted by law, total liability is limited to the total amount paid for the relevant service.

The existence of insurance does not imply or guarantee specific outcomes.

15. Complaints

Complaints may be submitted in writing to:
complaints@centreformalepsychology.com

Complaints will be reviewed internally and, where appropriate, referred to professional or legal advisors.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any dispute shall be handled exclusively by the courts of England & Wales.

17. Acceptance of Terms

By booking, paying for, or attending a session, the Client confirms that they have:

  • read and understood these Terms & Conditions

  • had the opportunity to ask questions

  • freely consented to receive hypnotherapy and wellbeing coaching under these conditions
